Staying at the Montague Inn for the weekend? Saginaw and the surrounding Great Lakes Bay Region pack in more than visitors expect. Here is how we would spend two days.
Saturday morning — history & art
Start at the Castle Museum of Saginaw County History, housed in a striking château-style former post office. Then take in the Saginaw Art Museum, with works spanning thousands of years, and stroll the grounds of the Japanese Cultural Center, Tea House & Gardens — one of the most authentic tea houses in the country.
Saturday afternoon — gardens & the river
Wander the Lucille E. Andersen Memorial Garden, or head to nearby Midland for the world-class Dow Gardens and the Whiting Forest canopy walk. Prefer the outdoors? The Saginaw Valley Rail Trail runs 25 miles toward St. Charles — great for a bike ride.
Saturday evening — a show & a meal
Catch a concert or comedy at the beautifully restored Temple Theatre, or an event at the Dow Event Center, then unwind with a craft beer at a local brewery before returning to the inn.
Sunday — a Frankenmuth day trip
Just 25 minutes away, Frankenmuth — Michigan's Little Bavaria — is worth a morning: Bavarian architecture, Bronner's CHRISTmas Wonderland, riverside Heritage Park and the aerial park. (Staying closer to Little Bavaria? See our bed & breakfast near Frankenmuth page.)
